On 16th and 17th October this year, celebrations for the birthdays of the Twin Manifestations (Báb and Bahá’u’lláh) were held all over the world by Bahá’is.
Mirza Husayn-Ali, who is known to the world by His title, Bahá’u’lláh, was born in Tehran, Iran on 12 November, 1817. Bahá’u’lláh means “Glory of God” in Arabic and He is the Prophet-Founder of the Baha’i Faith.
The anniversary of the day He was born is celebrated alongside the birth of the forerunner of His Revelation, the Báb. These Twin Holy Days are celebrated annually as one festival where the closely interwoven missions of these two Divine Luminaries are remembered together.
The Báb, which translates to ”the gate”, was born Siyyid ‘Ali-Muhammad on October 20, 1819 in what was then Shiraz, Persia, now Iran. He was a prophet and a leader of the Bahá’í revelation who was often likened to John the Baptist. He encouraged people to purify themselves for the coming of the messenger of God.
In Lilongwe, the capital city of Malawi, the celebrations took place at the National Baha’i Center, in Area 14. Bahá’is and their friends enjoyed an inspiring devotional programme and shared stories about the Báb and Bahá’u’lláh. The celebrations were flavoured with performances, singing, dancing and refreshments. Indeed, the Twin Holy Days were celebrated in a colourful, wonderful and glorious manner!
